CHAPTER 13 - EXCERPT

I had one chance to deliver a strong first impression and wanted to make the most of it.  

Martin said they did not have a composer under contract yet, but had some people they were considering. I told him I was already getting musical inspiration for his game, and sang him a couple of ideas on the spot. I also described the composition map system I designed for Left Behind, and suggested that model as a possible approach for his game. 

Once I felt I had made just enough of an impression, without overstaying my welcome, I arranged for a call the following week. Then I walked away and continued exploring the expo floor.  

But Faeria remained on my mind...

CHAPTER 13 - EXCERPT

I was stretched thin and would need to hire additional talent to take some of the busy-work off my plate. At the time, my base rate was $1,500 per finished minute. I decided to double the rate and submit the bid, expecting to engage in a few rounds of negotiations before landing on a mutually agreeable number. But there was no negotiating, Jean-Michel accepted my bid without reservation. 

I next proposed retaining the copyrights in all compositions and recordings...
